Sleep with one eye open Starbucks — McDonald’s has added espresso to their McCafé menu. New offerings include macchiatos, cappuccinos, and Americanos. For a limited time only, the burger chain will be offering any small McCafé specialty beverage for $2.

This move will cost the Golden Arches a pretty penny. A 2016 CNN article claims franchisees were required to purchase new espresso makers for $12,000 each.

McDonald’s has also revealed new McCafé packaging that will “evolve with the seasons.” The company plans to transition over to a more modern and sleek in-restaurant presence and, according to a press release, they’re partnering with Coca-Cola in early 2018 to produce a line of ready-to-drink bottled McCafé Frappé drinks in three flavors: caramel, vanilla, and mocha.

“This is just the start of our McCafé commitment,” said Chris Kempczinski, president of McDonald’s USA. “We understand how important the coffee culture is for consumers and we are committed to meeting that demand at the taste, convenience, and value only McDonald’s can offer.”

Need a caffeine kick? We bet you didn’t know these 10 things about espresso.
